Custom Cutter Studio Support
Getting started
Open Custom Cutter Studio from your Shopify admin. The "Get started" checklist walks through four steps, and each one ticks itself off when it is done:
- Create your Custom Cutter product. This creates one product called "Custom Cutter" with a "Size" option covering 9 sizes (1.75" to 5") and a placeholder image you can replace later.
- Set your prices. Give each of the 9 sizes its own price. See Setting your prices below.
- Add the designer to your product page. This opens your theme editor with the Cutter Designer block ready to add to the product template. Click Save there, then come back and click "I've saved it" to confirm.
- Go live. Publishes the product to your Online Store so customers can find and buy it.
You only need to do this once. If you ever remove the product or the block by mistake, reopen the app and the checklist picks up wherever you left off.
Setting your prices
Step 2 of the checklist shows one price field per size, so a bigger cutter can cost more than a smaller one. Each field starts at $15.00 as a starting point — edit any or all of them before saving. If you have already saved prices once, reopening the checklist shows your current prices so you can adjust just the ones you want to change.
You can also reprice at any time afterward from the product page in your Shopify admin (Products > Custom Cutter > edit each variant's price), without going back through the checklist.
What artwork can customers upload?
The designer accepts PNG and JPEG images. A customer picks a size, optionally adds a line of text (if you left that option on — see cutter settings), and sees a 3D preview before adding it to their cart. Clearer, higher-contrast artwork with a simple silhouette produces the cleanest cutter; very thin or highly detailed lines may get simplified or ignored depending on your cutter settings.
Where do I find my orders and the files?
Open Custom Cutter Studio. Each order that contains a custom cutter is one row. Click Download ZIP to get every cutter in that order as STL files, ready to print. File names include the size, and a quantity such as x2 when a customer bought more than one of the same design. Click Mark fulfilled once you have printed and shipped it — this is just a checklist for you, it does not change the order's status in Shopify. Cancelled orders are marked so you know not to print them.
Customers can still buy without designing a cutter
By default the designer hides the theme's own size picker and Add to cart button on the product page, so a customer can only buy after uploading art and building a design. If you can still see the theme's own buy controls:
- Open your theme editor and select the Cutter Designer block on the Custom Cutter product page.
- Make sure "Also show the theme's own size picker and Add to cart" is turned off in the block's settings.
- Some themes place buy buttons in an unusual spot outside the main product block. If it's still visible after that, email us the product page link and we will take a look.
Can I sell more than one custom cutter product?
Right now the app manages a single "Custom Cutter" product per store — the checklist and dashboard are both built around that one product. If you need multiple custom-cutter listings (for example, different price tiers or themed collections), email us and let us know what you're trying to do; we're happy to hear the use case.
Changing how the cutters are made
Open Settings in the app menu to change the physical shape of every generated cutter: cutting-wall thickness and height, wall position relative to the artwork, a sharpened cutting edge, handle height and width, an optional second (shorter) wall, outline detail level and smoothing, ignoring very small details, automatic background removal, and whether customers can add text (plus that text's height and depth). New designs use whatever settings are in effect at the time they're built; designs customers already made are never changed retroactively.
Plans and billing
Open Plans in the app menu to see your current usage and change plans.
| Plan | Monthly price | Custom cutters / month | Sales fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 5 | None |
| Starter | $15 | 50 | 8% |
| Advanced | $30 | 200 | 7% |
| Pro | $50 | Unlimited | 5% |
Paid plans are billed by Shopify with your regular Shopify invoice, on a 30-day cycle. The sales fee applies only to the price of the custom cutters in an order — never to the rest of your store's sales — and is charged as a Shopify usage charge. You can change or cancel your plan at any time from the Plans page; a downgrade takes effect immediately, so double check your current month's order count first if you're close to the new plan's limit.
Customers see "temporarily unavailable"
This means your store has reached its plan's monthly limit on custom cutters ordered. Open Plans and upgrade, and the designer becomes available to customers again right away. The count resets automatically at the start of your next 30-day billing cycle.
A design takes a while
Building a cutter from uploaded art usually takes 10 to 20 seconds. If several customers are designing at the same time, each one waits its turn briefly rather than failing.
What happens to customer data?
We only ever store what's needed to build and fulfill a cutter: the uploaded image, the chosen size and text, and the resulting STL files. We never store a customer's name, email, phone number, address or payment details. A design that's never added to an order is automatically deleted after 45 days. Full details are in our privacy policy.
Uninstalling
Uninstalling removes the designer from your theme. Forty-eight hours later, all of your store's Custom Cutter Studio data is deleted, including images, generated files, settings and order links. If you reinstall before that window closes, your data is still there; after it closes, reinstalling starts fresh. See our privacy policy for details.
